PRIDE & PREJUDICE
AN INTERACTIVE THEATRICAL EXPERIENCE
Directed by Olivia Dennehy-Basile
here, now, & present
Who are people we wrongfully assume wouldn’t be in the Regency -- that were actually there?
Jane Austen is beginning to join Shakespeare in the fluidity of adaptations. They speak to human elements and, while critiquing a specific time period, apply to current day.
We see shows like Bridgerton, My Lady Jane, and Renegade Nell breaking down barriers of representation in Regency era and other historical stories and creating space to have these discussions.
This production of Pride and Prejudice would focus on casting to the core of the character, including disabled actors, POC, and plus sized performers in spaces they would typically be excluded from.
Marketing Goals of P&P
We would hope this production of Pride and Prejudice would inspire audiences to engage with the source material in a new way. This would include a variety of audiences.
Students: Pride and Prejudice is book often read in schools in English classes. Offering student discounts or giving group discounts for school classes would incentivize those who are familiar with the work and allow them to rediscover the work in brand new way.
Date Nights: The amount of people make their partner watch the Kiera Knightley Pride and Prejudice film from 2005 is astronomical. Having something as simple as a "sweetheart's" night where dressing up is encouraged would provide a fabulous night out for a couple who wants to do more than watch the same film again.
